Review:

I know I said this in my last review for The Devil All The Time, but Netflix is on a role!

My first week back at in person school Senior year hasn't been too bad. About 1/4 the entire schools population is back in person while the rest stayed at home. I'm not sure which group is neglected more: the students in person who are still asked to join the google meet even though that is exactly what they came to school not to do, or the students at home who are being deprived of an actual senior year? With that, more homework, college applications, and a lack of sleep, you have a recipe for disaster. None of that has to do with the actual movie Enola Holmes, but I just wanted to give you some context on my mental state while watching it. Ok, now onto the review!

Enola Holmes, the younger sister of the well known Sherlock Holmes, must embark on a great adventure in search of her mother who disappeared on her 16th birthday. On the run, her story becomes entangled with a young runaway Lord Tewkesbury, who now needs her help to escape his family. Outwitting her famous brother, Enola cracks a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.

Enola Holmes is based of a novel series of the same written by Nancy Springer. Despite having a famous sibling, Enola is her own detective. The world already knows the story of Sherlock Holmes, so instead of trying to re-tell the same story over again, we get an entirely knew adventure from the perspective of new characters.

The entire movie is one big adventure. I was on my toes trying to decipher all the clues being laid out in front of me. Director Harry Bradbeer no doubt had so much fun making this movie. Definitely a watch for the entire family:)

Similar to his Emmy Award winning comedy series Fleabag, Enola frequently breaks the fourth wall and addresses the audience as if we were walking right along side her. That is what makes this movie unique. There aren't too many movies I enjoy that break the fourth wall successfully: Fight Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, American Psycho, Deadpool, and now Enola Holmes. Breaking the fourth wall not only gives us an inside look at our characters thoughts, but allows us to immerse ourselves even more into the world of the movie.

This cast is stunning, amazing, spectacular, gorgeous, talented, perfect, and so much more:

  • Millie Bobby Brown is on another level. Her incredible protrayal of Eleven in Stranger Things gave me high hopes for her part as Enola in this movie, and let me tell you, I loved every scene she was in. She holds the weight of the world on her shoulders yet again, but this time she gets to have fun with it. This is a woman powered movie and I can't wait to see who comes next!

  • Henry Cavill is the hunkiest Sherlock Holmes I have ever seen. When does he get the time to workout in between solving crimes?. No one will ever top Benedict Cumberbatch's performance of Sherlock, but in my opinion, Henry Cavill comes in 2nd place. Charming and intelligent, Cavill perfectly takes on the iconic role of Sherlock in a new way, and I loved it!

  • I always knew Mycroft Holmes was a member of the family, but never did I think I would despise him. Sam Claflin does an amazing job at making me want to punch him right in his twirly mustache. Sam Claflin is one of my favorite male actors in the business, so I am always happy to watch everything he is in. Glad I watched this!

  • Helena Bonham Carter is iconic, but she is barely in this movie. She plays Eudoria Holmes, the mother of our beloved characters. Even though I loved every scene she was in (especially the end, it made me emotional), I wish we got more mother daughter scenes.

  • Louis Partridge is my new favorite British boy. He plays Lord Tewksbury, the boy Enola decides to help along her journey. His charming smile and floppy brown hair gives me Hugh Grant vibes, and his chemistry with MBB is insanely adorable. I am so excited to see what project he works on next!

This movie has just enough adventure, teen romance, and Henry Cavill for me:) I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they made another Enola Holmes movie and took us on one last adventure because this one was a blast!

(Another super quick review for you guys! So much is being release on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney Plus in the October so be prepared for a lot of new reviews!!!!)
